Tamás Bátyi conducts financial, economic, and statistical analysis and provides client and expert support through all phases of commercial litigation and regulatory investigations. Dr. Bátyi focuses on financial markets, market manipulation allegations, trading conduct, financial institutions, FinTech, and securities litigation. He has consulted on matters involving the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Dr. Bátyi’s experience includes:

Market manipulation, trading conduct, and market microstructure
  • Extensive work in matters involving alleged market manipulation in commodities, energy, and related futures and swap markets
  • Analyzing alleged spoofing activities in futures and options markets
  • Consulting on regulatory investigations of the alleged manipulation of U.S. Treasury and related derivative markets
  • Evaluating pricing of structured products, including the tranches of synthetic collateralized debt obligations (CDOs)
  • Analyzing large, proprietary financial institutions datasets in the context of internal investigations and regulatory inquiries
FinTech and crypto-asset markets
  • Evaluating pricing and use of cryptocurrency loans
  • Analyzing cryptocurrency trading and mining data
Securities litigation
  • Analyzing market efficiency for equities and corporate bonds
  • Conducting event studies to address price impact and loss causation

Dr. Bátyi has published research on risk capital allocation methods in the European Journal of Operational Research. Before joining Cornerstone Research, he served as a strategy analyst at the MOL Group, an international oil and gas company. Previously, he worked on risk management–related projects at the Debt Management Agency of the Government of Hungary.
