Education

Laurien Gilbert specializes in antitrust and competition matters, including conduct litigation, government investigations, and merger reviews.

Applying her expertise in empirical methods and causal analysis, Dr. Gilbert assesses competitive effects, market definition, and market power in antitrust matters. Her experience spans many industries, including aerospace, ecommerce, entertainment, payment cards, technology, and telecommunications. She leads teams to support clients and experts during all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation investigation, discovery, and trial.

Dr. Gilbert consults on commercial litigation and investigations involving pricing conduct beyond antitrust contexts, with particular experience in alleged price gouging and international trade matters. She has addressed these issues in consumer packaged goods, oil and gas, and technology industries, among others.

Dr. Gilbert teaches economics courses at Georgetown University. She also currently serves as a vice chair on the Unilateral Conduct Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Antitrust Law Section. Previously, she served as a Young Economist Representative to the ABA’s Joint Conduct Committee.

Antitrust litigation and merger review

Dr. Gilbert assesses liability and damages claims arising in high-profile antitrust litigation, regulatory investigations, and merger review. She addresses allegations related to bundling and tying, horizontal price fixing, vertical exclusionary practices, and attempted monopolization.

Price gouging claims

Dr. Gilbert has analyzed issues involving alleged price gouging in the oil and gas and consumer packaged goods industries in the context of government investigations and litigation.

Thought leadership

Dr. Gilbert speaks and writes frequently on competition and pricing conduct issues, including economic issues in recent Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) cases, algorithmic collusion allegations, and price gouging claims.
