The New Chief Economist’s Priorities for 2020 and Beyond

This Cornerstone Research event in London featured a presentation by Pierre Régibeau, chief economist at the Directorate-General for Competition.

At this Cornerstone Research event, Dr Pierre Régibeau, chief economist at the Directorate-General for Competition (DG Competition), discussed his key priorities in the role to which he was appointed on 15 September 2019 by the European Commission.

Pierre Régibeau is chief economist at the DG Competition. Before starting in his new position, and during his time as a senior economic consultant, he provided economic analysis in landmark cases at the EU level, including Servier and Google Android.

Dr. Régibeau has held teaching positions at the Sloan School of Management at MIT, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and the University of Essex. He publishes widely in leading journals, particularly on topics related to standardisation, intellectual property, and competition and trade policy. For more than a decade, he served on the board of editors of the Journal of Industrial Economics.

Dr. Régibeau earned a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BSc from the University of Liège in Belgium.
