Tobias Kretschmer is an empirical industrial organisation economist, specialising in information and communications technologies (ICT). His research focuses on competition, firm performance and productivity, and organisational design in network and high-tech industries. In particular, Professor Kretschmer has analysed entry dynamics in the PC video games market; competition in platform markets, aftermarkets, and markets with complementary technologies; and issues related to cloud computing and standard setting.
Professor Kretschmer is a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London, and research professor at the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich. He has been affiliated with a number of universities and organisations in the EU, including HEC Paris, the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, the University of Southern Denmark, the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA), and AESE Business School in Lisbon, Portugal.
He is a member of the editorial boards of the Strategic Management Journal, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, and Industry and Innovation. A prolific author, his work has appeared in a number of books, as well as publications such as the Economic Journal, the Journal of Industrial Economics, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, Research Policy, Management Science, Telecommunications Policy and Information Systems Research, and the American Economic Review.
