Education

Stephen Choi is a noted authority on SEC enforcement matters. He has provided expert testimony before judges and juries and has analyzed price impact, materiality, loss causation, securities disclosures and liability, and corporate governance.

His research interests include empirical and theoretical analysis of securities litigation and SEC enforcement, corporate finance and governance, valuation, and financial institutions. Professor Choi codirects the NYU Pollack Center for Law & Business, a joint undertaking of the NYU School of Law and Stern School of Business.

Prior to joining the faculty at NYU, Professor Choi taught at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was the Roger J. Traynor Professor of Law. He graduated first in his class at Harvard Law School, where he served as a legal methods instructor and as supervising editor of the Harvard Law Review. He also holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard with a specialization in industrial organization and corporate finance.

Professor Choi has received the Fay Diploma, the Sears Prize, and the Irving Oberman Memorial Award. After his graduating from law school, Professor Choi worked as an associate at McKinsey & Company in New York.

He has coauthored three books, including Securities Regulations: Cases and Analysis, and Securities Regulation: Essentials. Professor Choi has published his research in the Yale Law Journal, the Stanford Law Review, the University of Chicago Law Review, among other journals. At conferences, symposia, and workshops, Professor Choi has presented more than 150 scholarly papers, many of them on securities class actions and regulation.
