Helen Munter is an accounting and auditing expert with over thirty years of experience in regulatory oversight and standard setting at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and as an audit partner at Deloitte.
Ms. Munter is a recognized expert in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), U.S. Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), international auditing standards, PCAOB and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. She has testified in deposition and at trial and submitted expert reports related to PCAOB rules and standards, PCAOB inspections, and PCAOB and SEC enforcement actions.
Ms. Munter served for fourteen years at the PCAOB, including as director of the Division of Registration and Inspections. Before that, she served as Deputy Director, Northern California Leader. In those roles, she developed, implemented, and maintained key methodologies for overseeing auditors of public companies. She collaborated with SEC staff, including the Office of the Chief Accountant, to identify priority projects and areas of regulatory focus.
At the PCAOB, Ms. Munter led teams responsible for over 250 inspections each year. At different points in her tenure, she led inspections of three of the largest global accountancy firms to assess quality control and deliver public reports on the Board’s findings.
Ms. Munter oversaw the PCAOB’s nationwide team of more than 500 audit professionals and inspectors, representing more than 60 percent of its workforce. In U.S. and international forums, she represented the PCAOB and worked with the overseers of audit firms in major developed capital markets.
Before joining PCAOB, Ms. Munter was an audit partner at Deloitte, where she served for sixteen years, including two years working in Spain.
Ms. Munter is chief executive officer and cofounder of ADIGEO Consulting LLC, a consulting firm focused on improving audit quality and addressing regulatory issues.
