Expert Forum: Cracking the Commonalities and Differences in Data Breach and Data Privacy Cases

Share

At this Cornerstone Research video conference, academics, attorneys, and economists discussed current trends and future directions of data breach and data privacy matters.

Massive amounts of data are generated by the everyday activities of consumers, as they interact digitally with a host of different entities. With so much data accumulating every second, litigation related to alleged data misuse is steadily on the rise.

At this Cornerstone Research Expert Forum, a panel of experts discussed emerging trends in data breach and data privacy litigation. The panel featured Lorin Hitt of the University of Pennsylvania; Natalie Mizik of the University of Washington; David L. Balser of King & Spalding; Jane B. O’Brien of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison; and Vildan Altuglu and Samid Hussain of Cornerstone Research.

Drawing on recent high-profile cases, the panelists addressed multidisciplinary approaches and the role that economics and consumer behavior analyses play in these complex matters. The panel also covered:

  • Commonalities—and differences—that characterize recent high-profile cases
  • Evolving injury methods to value personal data and potential harm due to loss of privacy or breach of personal data
  • Implications for future litigation
